The major event of greenstone belt formation took place during 3500-3200 Ma both in the eastern part and in the western part of the Singhbhum granitic craton. Younger Supracrustal Rocks Belts of supracrustal rocks, designated as Iron Ore Group (IOG), containing banded iron-formation flank the Singhbhum Granite on the western, eastern and southern sides. The BIF-mafic volcanic association in these belts has been described by some workers (Acharyya, 1993) as Archaean greenstones.
