It was found that flask temperature, metal melting temperature and flask casting temperature significantly affected casting process in gold jewelry manufacturing. To find suitable temperature of the three main factors, Taguchi technique (L9 3 levels 3 factors) was repeatedly used for testing 3 times in 9 positions of the surface.

The Role of Process Parameters in Platinum Casting ...

Platinum is a challenging material for casters because of its physical properties, which result in possible crucible and flask reactions during melting and casting, high shrinkage porosity and difficulties in filling of filigree items. This paper summarises the results of a collaborative research effort by several industrial partners and FEM on the influence of casting process parameters.

Unfortunately, many casters think itʼs due to low flask temperature and they increase the flask temperature, which results in the piece having porosity. If the casting does not fill, check the recommended flask temperature on page 148. If the temperature was within 50°F, then it was probably a spruing problem. Examine the cast.

The temperature you hold the oven (and the burned our flasks) prior to casting? Pretty much everywhere I've read, I see numbers sort of like this: - Gold 1050 F - White gold 1100F - Silver 950 F - Platinum 600 F I generally get good results casting smaller ladies rings in 14k gold at 1050 F. But on larger pieces, I sometimes see pitting.

Flask temp for casting gold - Jewelry Discussion ...

There has been some discussion about flask temperature for silver, but what about gold? I have only cast gold a couple of times, but it didn't dawn on me to use another flask temp than I use for silver. The gold castings (14k) seem to come out ok at 900f, but is there a better flask temperature? Thanx, Gena Wagner Louisville, KY

Large plain pieces require a lower flask temperature of 800 °F to 950 °F while pieces with fine detail or filigree require higher flask temperatures of 900 °F to 1150 °F. Another rule of thumb is when flasks are used in a vacuum/vacuum-assist casting machine; they should be 75 °F to 100 °F hotter than when casting the same pieces in a ...
