Then I decided to become more genteel and bought a Scotts 2000 drop spreader. What a waste of money. In the dozen times I've used it, dry weather, dry grass, average humidity, granular fertilizer and lime, it never fails to cake up and clog. I've NEVER completed a lawn job without having to empty the spreader, and do it by hand.

The spreader tube that spins in bottom of spreader easily clogs (was trying to spread dry grass seed) and the bar will not spin making this spreader useless. If the bar was raised up a bit this might help, but the holes in the bar are also clogging so the engineering is just poor.

I've used it once & it worked very well, the only feature it does not have that my old scotts spreader had was the locking feature that let you pull the release lever then lock it in place & you spread without holding onto the release lever.

The Scott's whirly spreader seems to work the best. It has a small beater wire at the bottom which helps to keep product moving. The biggest problem I have encountered is wet or damp product. This will clog most any spreader. Use dry product! _________________. The "soap" you use is normally chemicals, etc. Use real SOAP !!

If you mean a drop spreader, it definitely won't work on something like a Scotts spreader. The peat moss is just too light. I just tried with a rotary spreader, it did not work. Ended up doing it by hand. I tried just to see, and yeah that doesnt work at all. Time to perfect your throwing motion with a shovel.

Look at the handles on my Scotts spreader which is now for sale, cheap (80 pounds capacity) about like a Lesco, weighs 42 pounds. The left/right pattern adjustment is superior to the Lesco version. Buy some comfortable moto-cross rubber hand grips.

Adjusting the flow rate control was very easy to calibrate. Finished inflating the tires and gave it the first run when I spread pelletized lime over my lawn.

It'll be spreading fine then it clogs, shake the spreader and its good to go. I think alot of this goes hand in hand with the agitator/stirring device in the bottom of the hopper. Most are too high above the gate so that the clog can occur below the agitator.

A friend recomended getting a 'rotary' spreader, as oppose to a 'drop' spreader. This is because 'drop' spreaders tend over-dose the lawn or clog, and it's difficult to stop the flow when you get to the end of a row, or when you make a turn.
