Army Welfare Sugar Mills (AWSM) is one of the subsidiary of Army Welfare Trust. It can be termed as the mother project of Army Welfare Trust. This project came into existence on desire of General Headquarters Rawalpindi for fulfilment of AWT's aim i.e generation of funds for the welfare and rehabilitation of orphans, widows of Shaheeds and disabled personnel of Pak Army.

Habib Sugar Mills Limited was incorporated as a Public Limited Company in 1962 with its Head Office in Karachi and its plant located at Nawabshah, 300 kilo-meters north east of Karachi. The original machinery for the sugar division was supplied by M/s. B.M.A. of Germany and the process was Double Carbonation Double Sulphitation (D.C.D.S).
