Fixing a hairline crack in your guitar's neck is easier than you think. With water, some CA super glue, and a couple of clamps, you'll have that crack bonded perfectly in no time. Glue the edges of the crack together, aligning things with wedges, etc. When the glue dries, then work through the F holes and glue a linen backing strip behind the crack. Don't make then linen strip too wide or the ribs tend to get distorted as the glue dries. Nov 17, 2010 #5. Treyzer.

It looks nearly new, except for a fine hairline crack in the bridge thru the pin holes. It starts at the B (#2) string pin hole, and extends ~1mm past the low E (#6) hole. The bridge is attached firmly to the soundboard, there isn't significant belly (at least for a 33 yr old guitar!), and the bridgeplate/braces inside look fine.

I wouldn't use lacquer to do the repair because the thinner will also soften the original lacquer finish. However, you can put enamel over lacquer without it attacking the lacquer. You might try putting a small "dab" of clear enamel on the chipped place. That should keep the place from spreading.

Are the sides of the crack level or is one slightly higher than the other? If they're level then it's probably just a finish crack. If one is slightly higher than the other (as it was on a mahogany guitar I looked at recently) then there's likely the wood is cracked and there may be problems.

A crack along the neck is never a good sign. I guess you hit the guitar on top of the head or somewhere near it? I'd let a luthier check it out. If it's a hairline crack in the wood, it's also not that easy to get wood glue in to clamp it afterwards.

My 1989 Ibanez RG550 has had a hairline crack running down the neck for like 4-5 years, during which the crack hasn't gotten any wider or longer at least as far as I can remember.
