Frac sand is named by the size of the grains. The coarsest material standard for frac sand is 20/40. This means that 90 percent of the sand is fine enough to pass through a 20 mesh sieve (see sieves etc) and is coarse enough to be retained on a 40 mesh sieve. As long as your sand meets these requirements, you have 20/40 frac sand.
